The Michigan Wolverines started their season with a sold-out stadium with over 110,000 attendees.
To celebrate Labor Day weekend, there were people who parachuted onto the field with the American and University of Michigan flags attached to their backs. During longer timeouts, teams that won championships in the previous season were brought onto the field for pictures and to receive cheers from the crowd.
Great Plays
TE Colston Loveland had a plethora of plays that contributed to the Wolverines’ win against Fresno State. He finished the game with 8 catches, 87 yards, and 1 touchdown.
DB Zeke Berry intercepted Fresno State’s QB Mikey Keene’s pass.
This occurred during his first career start for Michigan!
Michigan ended its first drive, securing the first points of the game with a touchdown pass from QB Alex Orji to RB Donovan Edwards.
This was Orji’s first career touchdown pass!
Michigan QB Davis Warren threw to WR Kendrick Bell for an 11-yard gain.
This was Bell’s first career catch!
Michigan RB Kalel Mullings was the main focus for three plays during the second quarter. He ran for a total of 42 yards during these plays and finished the game with a total of 92 yards.
Kicker Dominic Zvada kicked three extra points after the touchdown and made all three.
Bad Luck
Michigan DL Rayshaun Benny got an interception, but after the play was reviewed, the ruling was overturned to the ball hitting the ground first.
The play right after that was DB Makari Paige intercepting the ball and running it back for 29 yards. However, a flag was thrown and a penalty for roughing the passer was called.
This led to Fresno State getting a third chance to score.
In the same drive, a face mask penalty was called on Michigan’s LB Zach Ludwig. This moved Fresno State’s line of scrimmage to the 20-yard line.
Turning the Tide
Michigan’s DB Will Johnson completed a pick-six and Kicker Dominic Zvada succeeded in gaining the extra point, making the score 30-10.
The final score was Michigan 30 - Fresno State 10. This was Michigan’s 29th consecutive win and their 1005th win in history.
