Super Bowl LVII has come and gone, a game in which the Kansas City Chiefs took down the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 38-35. Almost 113 million viewers tuned in to this spectacle.
However, there was perhaps a bigger spectacle that took place that night - Rihanna’s halftime show performance.
The last time Rihanna performed live was seven years ago in 2016 for an album tour promoting Anti. Since then, her fans had a huge surprise when it was announced she had released a new single back in 2022, titled, “Lift Me Up” for the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
She also had her first child in May 2022. To say the least, Rihanna has been busy these past seven years.
Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance opened with her standing on a platform that moved between 15 to 60 feet off the ground. She wore a gorgeous red Loewe jumpsuit and an Alaia puffer coat. Her background dancers took the internet by storm as they were being called “marshmallows” because of their puffy white outfits.
Even the ASL interpreter, Justina Miles, was trending because of her amazing execution of every word in Rihanna’s songs in solely sign language.
Rihanna performed 12 songs in 13 minutes, including her biggest hits like “Umbrella,” “Diamonds,” “We Found Love,” and more.
She was excited to be back and performing again, and stated, “The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world. So, as scary as that was because I haven’t been on stage in seven years, there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all.”
The biggest twist of the performance was Rihanna’s surprise pregnancy reveal. Rihanna did an amazing job with her performance, but many viewers agreed that her baby bump stole the show. Many had speculated about the pregnancy during the performance, especially after Rihanna had touched her belly in a maternal way, but it was only confirmed after the show was over.
After such a performance, Rihanna’s fans could not help but wonder what plans she has for her future career. She loves singing and making music, but it is unsure whether she plans on releasing a new album.
However, many fans can agree that Rihanna will only take on projects she is passionate about, meaning all her work comes to light with hard work and dedication.
